hws 6a’03 bbq @ Changi Beach
It’s quite amazing we still keep in touch, cos we weren’t really that close with each other even when we were in the same class (and that was like 3 years ago). Yup, but even so, it’s good to see them after soooo long. Esp ShuTing (:
Although the bbq was suppose to be a GATHERING, but somehow I don’t’ think we were anywhere close TOGETHER leh. I mean, sure, we’re like together at the same place, but that doesn’t mean that we’re interacting much at all. It was just like the usual, where the girls and guys would play happily among themselves, but never together. As far as I can remb, it was like dat ever since primary school, when we were still in the same class.
Yup, I know, it seems a bit strange, but it’s certainly happening. Yet no one really make an effort to, you know, initiate interaction between the 2 big grps. Haiz. Maybe we could have BBQed food together (since Ching Siang was like the only one BBQing all the food), or even played bridge together (we were playing the same game but it was 4 girls one game, 4 guys another. Even then, 2 of the guys didn’t know how to play so most of the time they were trying to teach them instead of playing a real game).
Though that was the situation, we had fun anyway. I learnt some new games, like the one where everyone would pick a fruit name, can u’ll have to call out the name of the person who have the same card as you, and also the finger game. (: Most of the games we played were reaction games, and mostly I was the last to react. *sighz* But we had fun anyway, our pit was filled with lots of laughter.
Then came the time when we wanted to leave. Then came the problem. Cos our pit was at Changi Beach, and as u all know, it is one of the most ulu place in s’pore. We even had problems when we arrived. We took bus 19 from tampines mrt. Art a 20min ride, we saw the beach, but didn’t alight. A few bus-stops later, we alighted and started to walk back to that previous bus-stop. Upon reaching, we then realised that the bus-stop which we alighted was the right one. -.-“
We found out that 19 stops servicing at 7.45pm. That explains why other ppl came with tents – they don’t intend to go home. We walked out to the road, and tried to call a cab. None came. We then tried to flag, but there all only a few cars that past by, and the few taxis that did were hired. After a long time, we decided to walk to the bus-stop at the main road. We parted ways after tat, some to Vivo, others Downtown. End of bbq.
Sigh. Next year’s going to be a busy year, and I think that this bbq would be one of the gatherings where the most number of ppl would turn up. Well, let's hope that the morale will be higher the next time round we have a gathering! :)
Hey everyone, going back HWS on CNY eve? Maybe we could go have lunch aft that. This time, TOGETHER.

*sobz* I miss OBS!
05 12 2006
It has been a month since I last seen my OBS watch-mates from Dhanabalan. I can still remb the fun times we spent at Pulau Ubin, in the arms of Mother Nature & away from civilisation…
Yup, so anyway, we met up for a gathering. Though our watch consist of 16 ppl, only 5 turned up.
After lunch, we didn’t know what to do, so we walked from Plaza Sing to Orchard Rd, which isn’t that faraway. We walked around. (I mostly window shopped.) Then dunno who came up with the idea of visiting the toys dept, so we spent the aftnoon visiting every toys dept on Orchard Rd. (1st time I did that, quite fun actually) Aft dinner at Pepper Lunch, (really nice! I suggest u all go try one day), we went home.
OBS & shopping no link? Yup, I know.
The next time when all 16 are present, we jus have a BBQ, go cycling or smth.
I still miss DHANABALAN!
[To Samuel: Thanks for the testi!(: ]

2f chalet (:
2f chalet was loud & noisy no doubt, but FUN.
(Concrete prove: We got complained by our neighbours so many times that we received a final warning from the guard, keep quiet or GET OUT.)
There were so many of us squeezing in the Costa Sands Pasir Ris chalet but surprisingly there was still space for us to play twister and bridge. The chalet went on the typical fashion, with a few guys hogging the TV with the Xbox, the rest of us playing cards, mahjong or word-games. (Yes, word-games. Even though that may not be what ppl normally do at chalets, but with the boisterous 2f crowd, even the harmless word-games could churn out tons of screams & laughter.) Those hungry during the night fought over cup noodles. (I discovered that Tom Yum flavour tasted the best.)
We had our bbq the following night. Our PSL Sidney was invited. We started the fire only at 8plus, by that time everyone was super hungry. Luckily we bought chicken rice de rice, at least got some staple food to fill our stomach. We had quite a few things for our bbq. (Guo Xiang even roasted 2 fishes as well) The hot favourite was cheesy hotdogs, prepared by Eunice and Wen Yi. The satay was good as well. Andrew came up with a new way of eating marshmallows, deep it in honey b4 roasting it. It tasted not bad la, jus that we all might get diabetes aft eating it. (:
Aft the bbq, a few of us had to leave. On the way to the MRT, I accompanied Sam to the toilet. We had to run to catch up with the guys after that cos apparently they didn’t have enough patience to wait. Upon reaching the MRT, we realise that Joshua & Guo Xiang were missing! We thought they were behind us all the time. Luckily we found out that they went to buy smth.
It’s NOT FUNNY when 2 ppl suddenly go missing so close to midnight, so pls remb to inform your companions if you suddenly have the urge to buy something instead of just waling of like dat. It could really freak ppl out.

1st post! (:
Hi guys, I finally got myself a blog! :)
Feel free to leave comments at my tag board, it’s currently quite empty pls do hep me fill it up! Erm, sorry if it’s a bit lag, I’ll try to keep it updated k? And oh ya, LINK ME! thanks
I never thought my 1st post would be abt unfortunate experiences. Oh well, a blog is a place to vent frustrations afterall. Here goes:
03 12 2006
The Guides HQ asked for volunteers for the Standard Charted Marathon and us DHS guides went to participate. We thought that it would be a fun experience, (some of us were quite excited cos the official apparel sponsor was Addidas).
We had to stay overnight at the HQ cos we have to be there by 3.30am. After a long day of tuition, I was dead tired and longed for a good rest. However, I couldn’t even catch a wink of sleep. Haiz.
I was part of the ‘Deep Heat Rub’ group so we didn’t get the Addias shirt (the drinks grp got it though). Our job was to provide deep heat rub for the runners. We ate our breakfast at 3.30am, sitting on a pavement beside the road. The breakfast wasn’t bad.
We proceed to our respective stations, mine was the 1st, located at the 6km & 9km mark. We were ready by 4.45, but the run doesn’t start until 6am. We caught a little wink of sleep at the bus-stop.

There was a stampede when the 1st herd of runners past us at 6.16am. (Yup, HERD.) They were really scary, running like bulls. They jus grab the cups of water and poured it over their heads, throwing empty cups all over the place. We stared at them, SHOCKED.
They were the most aggressive ones, the rest that came after them wasn’t’ so bad. But still the road got littered with more and more cups, by the end of the day, it looked like this:

(photos taken after all runners ran past)
There were trash bags provided, but you cant blame them. Afterall, who’s going to stop jus to throw a paper cup? But no doubt there were nice runners. Some really did stop. There was one lady who especially took a cup of 100plus for us, seeing that we were shouting ‘MUSCLE RELIEF!’ till our voices were hoarse. We saw some runners with interesting costumes, a cat-women with bells on her legs for example.
Well, cos we were the first station, all the runners ran past by 8.30am. After we packed, we sat around waiting for the bus to transport us to the finishing line. The few of us we so dead tired tat we could fall asleep lying in the middle of the road!
Then it started drizzling, so all of us including the drinks grp & 100-plus crew went to squeeze in the bus-stop. We waited patiently, it was until we started dozing of that the person on walkie-talkie said that the bus is coming. It was already 10plus. We waited and waited some more, until we’ve gotten backaches from sleeping in an awkward position, but still the bus hasn’t arrived.

When the bus finally arrived, it was already 12plus. We have been waiting for 2plus hrs. Upon reaching the padang, we were greeted with tired smiles and similar stories from fellow volunteers. A warm lunch or snack would be greatly appreciated, but disappointedly, there was none. Nevertheless, everyone was eager to share experiences. It was clear that everyone had a great time.
In spite of some disappointments on the management’s part, the event was a success and an eye-opener for all of us. I certainly didn’t regret signing up for it! It really warms your heart to see runners cheering each other on, whether they know them or not, even when they themselves are struggling. I can feel that the runners really do appreciate us volunteers for being there, encouraging them on. It felt good to hear mumbles of ‘thanks’ as runners run past, grateful for the little bit of muscle relief rub.
Thank you so much for the ‘thanks man, I really needed that!’, you have really made sacrificing of my Sunday worthwhile.
Amidst all the hard work, I’m glad to have a bunch of guides by my side. Overall, it was a great experience and don’t be surprised if you see me volunteering at the Marathon next year!
